description: Choose your publishing days, decide what goes live on its own and manage the calendar
---

Autopilot is the schedule RankJet works to. On each publishing day it writes the article planned for that day and, if you allow it, publishes it to your site. Writing is on from the start. Publishing on its own is your choice.

## Publishing days

In **Settings**, on the **Project** tab, the **Content calendar** section sets your pace. Pick the days under **Generate a new article every...**: RankJet writes at most one article a day, on up to 4 days a week, and shows how many articles that comes to this month.

During setup RankJet recommends a pace for your site, based on how many topics it found and how established the site is. You can change the days at any time, and **Reschedule calendar** moves articles that are already scheduled onto the new days.

## Publishing time and timezone

Set **Publishing time** and **Timezone** in the same section. The timezone decides which day counts as each article's day, so the calendar follows your week. Articles go out on their scheduled day, but not yet at an exact hour, so an article can go live before the time you set.

## What runs on its own

Four switches under **Content automation**, on the same tab, decide what happens without you:

| Switch | Starts | What it does |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Automatic keyword selection | On | Picks keywords and fills the calendar. See [Keywords](https://rankjet.co/en/docs/keywords) |
| Automatic article writing | On | Writes the article on each publishing day. Turn it off to pause |
| Auto-publish after writing | Off | Publishes each new article to your site as soon as it is written. Needs a connected site |
| Publish as a draft | Off | Sends articles to WordPress or Shopify as drafts, so you approve them there |

With auto-publish off, new articles wait as **Ready to publish** until you publish them from the editor. An article held for review never publishes on its own, even with auto-publish on.

> Auto-publish needs a connected site. Connect WordPress, Shopify or a code site in **Settings**, on the **Integrations** tab. Once the site is connected, RankJet asks whether to turn auto-publish on.

## The calendar

**Calendar** shows the month with one article per day at most. Until its day, an upcoming article is only a planned title. It is written on the day itself.

- Click an upcoming article to open **Customize Upcoming Article**: change the title, add a content briefing or a reference document, choose a goal page, or unschedule it
- Drag an upcoming article to another future day. While you drag, the days it cannot move to are shaded
- Drag an article that is ready to publish onto a day, and it publishes on that day
- **Schedule article** puts a keyword of your choice on the next free day

## Pausing

To pause, turn off **Automatic article writing**. Nothing new is written while it is off, and your calendar and keywords stay as they are. To keep writing but stop articles reaching your site, turn off **Auto-publish after writing** instead. If your subscription is not active, nothing is written or published, and articles whose day has come show as **Paused** until it is active again.
